Assisted Rehoming Application

Thank you for choosing us to rehome your companion cow/s!

Deciding to surrender an animal can be difficult for any pet owner. However, if you are in a situation where you can no longer keep your beloved bovine companion, rest assured we are here to help you.

We are compassionate and understand that people may have no options and be forced to rehome an animal in times of change, stress, illness or uncertainty.

Our team works together with you to find positive outcomes. Our Rehoming Program minimises the chances of your beloved bovine being rehomed into the wrong home where he/she may be onsold or slaughtered for meat.

To make our service accessible to everyone, we do not ask for a rehoming fee. However, if you are in a position, we kindly ask for a donation of your choosing. Companion Cows is 100% volunteer-run, meaning 100% of your donation goes back into the rescue and rehoming of other dairy animals who need our help.

It is important to understand that while we do our best to rehome your animal, unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that a suitable home will be found.

ASSISTED REHOMING PROCESS

Step 1:

This application is to be completed and submitted.

Step 2:
A member of our team will be in touch within 1 - 3 business days to discuss your specific situation & animal/s needs.

Step 3:
Once we have all the information needed, an adoption poster will be shared on our website & social media. From there, we will carefully screen all prospective adopters. This process may take 1 - 6 weeks, depending on the response we receive and the suitability of the potential adopters and your animal.

Step 4:
When a suitable adopter has been found, we will contact you to discuss the Adopter's situation and any specific details for rehoming.

Step 5:
We will connect you with the new adopter (by passing on your agreed contact information) to arrange a suitable rehoming date and facilitate transport. The Surrender and the Adopter are responsible for arranging transport logistics, costs and collection details.

Biosecurity & Compliance

Biosecurity is designed to protect your property from the entry and spread of pests and diseases. Additionally, it is a safeguard in case your animals ever get out. The local council will be able to check their ear tags and reunite them with their family!

Our assisted rehoming program requires an active Property Identification Code (PIC). In Australia, anyone who owns animals considered 'livestock', including but not limited to cows, horses, alpacas, goats & sheep, must have a registered PIC and NLIS ear tags. All animals adopted through Companion Cows will require NLIS ear tags.

If you do not yet have a PIC, please note that this is a legal requirement, and a PIC number must be obtained before rehoming of your animal/s can occur. We will happily walk you through the process if you have any questions.

If you want to know more about PICs and NLIS tags please click HERE

Photo Upload

Photos & videos that showcase your animal/s personality are best. For example, playing with their favourite toy, other animals or having cuddles with their human best friend. This is very helpful when working with adopters, as it helps showcase the true nature of your cow/s, and reinforces that they are to be rehomed as pets.

Please ensure photos/videos are clear & current.
